Commit to Fit Summer Fitness Challenge Photos

July 22nd- August 21st Week 5  to Week  8 Great work everyone!  Month two of our challenge is complete and we are well on our way in the final few weeks. Thanks to all who sumitted photos.  I love seeing all of them!  Remember that the more photos you submit, the more chances you have of winning our grand prize draw: 10 sessions of personal training! There will also be other prizes Even if you are not interested in the prizes, the photos help to inspire our community and keeps all of us thinking about fitness throughout the summer. A few weeks ago we created a new #hashtag system to categorize the different types of workouts you may find yourself doing during the Commit to Fit Summer Challenge.  You can use these to label the photos you post in our Facebook Group.  We did this to ensure that all our participants realize that the challenge is about the small things. If you go for a walk everyday in your neighbourhood, that is just as important as completing a multi-day trek in the Himalayas.  Most of us are compelled to photograph and post about the EPIC activities we do, however, the small things count too. EPIC is a workout that is something out of the ordinary.  This is usually a planned, active holiday such as hiking the West Coast Trail or paddling the Bowron Lakes Circuit.  It could also be an unusually long, challenging activity that you have been planning or training for such as a 100km bike ride, or an event of some sort. #epic MISSION is when you...

Humans of Eastside Fitness – Sue

I am a local girl. My family lived on Sherbrooke Street while I was in high school. I went to Eric Hamber. After high school, I moved on to work as a secretary. While working at the accounting firm of Price Waterhouse, I met my husband Dave, who was articling for his CA there. We have been married for 31 years. Typing for a living got a bit boring. I went back to school and got a degree in archaeology. I ended up working for the Líl’wat Nation in Pemberton, interviewing Elders about the traditional ways they used their land. I worked for Líl’wat for many years. I travelled up once or twice a week, and lived with a family on the reserve. This was a defining experience of my life, and I am grateful for how generous the Líl’wat people were to a naive white girl! Dave and I wanted to start a family, so living in two places part of each week was no longer practical. I came back permanently to Vancouver. We have lived in our current house near 30th & Main for 18 years now. We soon knew that if we wanted to be parents we would need to adopt. We were approved as adoptive parents in April 2003. We thought it might be years of waiting. But in October of that year, we got a call on a Friday night to come to the hospital in the morning and take our baby home! Pouf, instant parents! I was very lucky to be a stay-at-home mum with Joe. My hobbies are fashion and dance. My...

One Month of Commit To Fit – Keep it Up

Thanks to all who have been sharing their photos on our Commit to Fit Facebook Page.  We are now one month into our 3 month Commit to Fit Summer Fitness Challenge.  In the true spirit of #committofit, there are photos of everything from beautiful mountain top views, crystal cool lakes, and exotic locales to the everyday, ordinary workout routines we manage to squeeze in between work, kids, and backyard parties.  I especially love seeing how some of you have dragged your poor unsuspecting family, neighbours, and out of town guests into your healthy habits!  Keep up the great work everyone! Keep the photos coming too.  Here are a few that have been submitted since June 21st.  What have been your your favorite Commit to Fit moments so far this summer? Have you found it easy or difficult to stick to a healthy fitness routine?  Have you taken a holiday that focuses on activity such as hiking or canoeing?  Have you had to work hard to fit in a trip to yoga or make it out for a quick run?  How will you #committofit over the next two months of...

Commit to Fit Cardio Challenge Update

Go team!!! Are you getting 150 minutes of cardiovascular based exercise each week? Over 60 people in our Eastside Fitness community have decided to find out.  This is not an “epic” challenge.  Rather it is an accountability challenge because whether we like it or not, we are each accountable for our own health.  Experts in the health and fitness industry have interpreted studies such as these and have determined that 150 minutes of moderate cardio vascular activity per week is the MINIMUM required to reduce the risks of heart and lung diseases. Congratulations to all of our participants!   We are on week 3 of this 7 week challenge.  Of course the hope is that we will continue this practice throughout the year. All types of steady, continuous cardio vascular activity count: Walking, running, cross country skiing, dancing, swimming, rowing, cycling, hiking, aerobics, soccer, basketball, field hockey, tennis…. Do you want to join us in the challenge?  It is never too late.  Join our Facebook Group #Commit to Fit Challenge by Eastside Fitness to be inspired No excuses! You are truly an inspirational bunch!  The photos you have submitted on our Commit to Fit Facebook Group were awesome!
